As the vehicle moves forward, the wing nut winds up the threaded axle and eventually hits the side braking the car. The distance the car will go can be easily adjusted by taking the distance the car needs to travel divided by the circumference of the CD which gives the number of revolutions the wing nut needs to be turned away from the side of the car.
