Vulture population in Bundelkhand has seen a 103% rise in the past decade according to the data collected by Indian Biodiversity Conservation Society. https://india.mongabay.com/2020/04/vultures-in-bundelkhand-rise-but-stray-cattle-and-other-concerns-persist/
Bundelkhand, a region that falls in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is an important breeding site for the Gyps vulture species whose populations had declined by over 99% since the 1970s. The monuments, cliff faces and forests are important breeding sites.
However, factors that led to a decline in the vulture population continue. Mining in cliffs, degradation of forests and disturbance of nesting sites, use of diclofenac drug in livestock pose a threat to vultures. The increase in abandoned and stray cattle is raising concern of intangible effects on food and habitat for vultures.
