@nodak812 weeks agoOne of the biggest reasons I like Roku over other streaming devices is because their home screen isn't cluttered full of crap. If they keep this up, they will ruin that advantage. Their recent updates to the OS have already made my devices much less snappy. Sometimes it takes forever to launch an app or to exit to the home screen. Never used to be that way. ...4

@freespirit19752 weeks agoRoku is skating on VERY thin ice with me after they recently added the ads onto the screen saver, which I CAN put up with. But IF they stick a commerical running on the home screen when I log on and IF I am unable to block it, I PROMISE that all four of the Roku Express 4K+ streaming devices that I just purchased will go into the garbage can. Also, so the workers at the recycling center can't fish them out and use/sell them, I will first ADJUST them with my Monster Maul. ...15

@christopherknerr28512 weeks agoI want to add to Luke's answer for the question of the day by providing an insider highlight... There are regions of the country right now undergoing changes with Open Source Networks (OSN) where ISP's will be able to offer services to a broader area so long as they land at a central office (CO) within the "Last Mile" of consumers. Company A (i.e. Fiber First) comes through the neighborhoods and "owns / installs" the backbone and distribution cables to the homes and businesses then providers can compete by allowing consumers to micro lease dark fiber using common ISP services. The vision for this project is to enable ISP's to compete for consumers and regain competition within the market by eliminating ISP backhaul and distribution bias. ...6

@Buc_Stops_Here2 weeks agoWith the market more fragmented than ever, ads don't get much traction anymore. Only the people watching that specific streaming service will see that ad placement purchased. Putting it on the home screen of Roku would be prime real estate they could charge more. I suspect this will only continue as time goes on as people want more revenue for all these options - and now of course the power is in the consumer's hands on which services, if any, they will pay for. With Parmount, they are in chaos mode. They have no idea how to make money with their streaming service, cannot hold on to customers, and just have lost their way. They need to be sold sooner rather than later. 5G in my neighborhood would not work right now - not good enough coverage. ...5

If I want to watch my favorite movies, then I'll buy them in DVD form. Like, Dirty Harry movies or I'll rent them on PRN basis. I record more shows on YouTubeTV, then I ever watch. YouTubeTV has 90-95% of the channels, that Spectrum offers. Plus, Spectrum doesn't offer DVR, unless you pay extra. Plus, Spectrum is trying to get more people to buy their own cable box via Xumo streaming box. I personally don't know, if Spectrum offers a DVR anymore. Xumo streaming box is a glorified Roku box. Plus, with a Xumo streaming box, you only get the apps on the box and can't add anymore apps. ...9
